Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has played six games for Arsenal. And in Sunday’s game against stoke city (his sixth game), he scored his fifth goal, and had an opportunity to score another one in the form of a penalty kick, which would allow him to have six goals in six games. But the Gabonese international instead chose to have his attacking partner, Alexandre Lacazette, take the shot.

Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, Aubameyang explained his decision: “I know that Laca is back and I scored twice so I can shoot but it’s normal.

“I think it’s good for his (Lacazette’s) confidence, it’s normal.”

When Arsenal bought Aubameyang during the January transfer window, it meant that the club would have two top class strikers, but only one of them can be the starter. And ever since his Arrival, Aubameyang has looked sharp and well on his way to winning the starting position. And the fact that Alexandre Lacazette has been out for a couples of weeks due to injury made Aubameyang’s job even easier. So the hat-trick against Stoke would have sealed Aubameyang’s status on the starting role. Instead he gave it up so his colleague can have the opportunity to up his game. If there isn’t one already, then there should be a “Teammate of the Year” award, and it should go to Aubameyang.
